About

A side-view physics driving game over endless hills. Gas lifts the nose and brake tips it down, so every climb and jump is a balancing act. Keep the driver's head off the ground, grab fuel before the tank runs dry and land flips for coins. Spend them in the garage on eight vehicles, from a jeep and a rickshaw to a truck-art lorry and a moon rover, ten-level upgrades and a paint shop, with three daily missions, a daily chest and a daily run. Also known as Hill Climb Racing, Hill Climb Game, Physics Driving Game, Jeep Hill Climb, Rickshaw Driving Game, Truck Art Game, Tractor Hill Game, Monster Truck Hill Game, Moon Rover Game.

Tips & tricks

  • Let go of the gas as you leave a crest; gas in the air keeps lifting the nose.
  • Buy fuel tank and tyre upgrades first; reaching the next can matters more than speed.
  • Match vehicle to stage: the tractor in the swamp, the lorry if you keep flipping, the rover on the moon.

Hill Climb: complete guide

Hill Climb is a side-view physics driving game in the style of the classic hill climbing games. You drive as far as you can over endless hills with two pedals, keep the driver's head off the ground and race the fuel gauge to the next red can. Coins buy eight vehicles, from a jeep and a rickshaw to a hand-painted truck-art lorry and a six-wheeled moon rover, plus upgrades, paint jobs, missions and a daily chest.

How to play Hill Climb

Press Drive in the garage to start on a short flat stretch with a full tank. Hold gas to drive and brake to slow down or reverse. The course never ends; the hills just get taller and choppier, so the goal is distance.

The pedals also tilt the vehicle. Gas pushes the nose up and brake pushes it down, on the ground and in the air. Ease off the gas when the front wheel lifts on a climb, and level out with brake before you land. Your first run shows short tips for each of these.

  • The run ends if the driver's head touches the ground (the cab roof on closed vehicles), if you end up stuck on your roof, or when the tank is empty and you roll to a stop.
  • Fuel drains all the time and faster with gas held. Red cans fill the tank, and they get further apart as you go.
  • Every 500 m a checkered checkpoint adds 30% fuel and a coin bonus of 100, plus 50 more for each later gate.

Controls on computer and phone

On a keyboard, Right, Up, D or W is gas and Left, Down, A or S is brake. P or Escape pauses, R restarts at once and Enter starts a run from the garage or after a crash.

On a phone, hold the red gas pedal bottom right and the blue brake bottom left. The touch area is a whole bottom corner, so your thumb does not have to land exactly on the pedal. In Settings you can switch to screen halves (tap anywhere on the right for gas, left for brake), make the pedals bigger, turn vibration and music on or off, and drop the graphics to Low on slower phones. The game pauses itself when you switch apps.

Vehicles and upgrades

The jeep is free. The rickshaw (600 coins) is slow but uses about half the fuel. The tractor (1,500) has huge lugged tyres that grip hills and float over mud. The dirt bike (2,500) is fast and spins quickly in the air. The sports car (4,000) has the highest top speed but stiff, short suspension. The truck-art lorry (6,000) is long, heavy and very hard to flip. The monster truck (8,000) rolls over anything but drinks fuel, and the moon rover (12,000) has six wheels, long travel and solar thrift.

Each vehicle has five upgrades with ten levels: engine (+7% power per level), tyres (+5% grip), suspension (+6% damping and more travel), light body (2.5% less weight and quicker rotation) and fuel tank (+12% range). The garage shows stat bars for speed, acceleration, grip, stability and fuel range, and previews the gain before you pay.

Paint shop

Every vehicle can wear any of 14 colours and 9 wraps: racing stripes, halftone dots, checker, flames, lightning, camo, Pakistani truck art and chrome. There are also rims, driver helmets and decals such as race numbers or a truck-art evil eye. Tap an item to preview it on the turntable, then buy it with coins (the fanciest cost gems). Anything you own can be worn by every vehicle for free.

Coins, gems, levels and medals

Coins on the track are worth 5, 10, 25 or 100. Air time of a second or more pays 20 coins per second, and a full rotation landed on the wheels pays 250 for a backflip or 300 for a frontflip. When the run ends you also get a distance bonus of 0.3 coins per metre, and the results screen counts it all up.

Gems are the rare currency. You earn them from stage medals (bronze, silver and gold at 250, 600 and 1000 m), from levelling up with XP, from the hardest daily mission and from the daily chest. Each stage keeps your best distance as a red BEST flag on the course.

Missions, daily chest and daily run

Three missions appear every day, such as collecting 300 coins, reaching 350 m in one run or landing two flips. Progress adds up across runs and each one pays coins when you claim it. The daily chest pays out once a day; open it on consecutive days for bigger rewards, up to day 7. The daily run picks a stage, vehicle, course and distance target from the date, so everyone drives the same thing with upgrades fixed at level 3.

Tips for going further

Distance comes from staying alive and staying fuelled, not from top speed.

  • Let go of the gas as you leave a crest. Gas in the air keeps lifting the nose, the most common way to land on your head.
  • Before landing, match the slope you are falling onto. Landing on both wheels keeps your speed.
  • Spend early coins on the fuel tank and tyres; reaching the next can matters more than speed.
  • Pick the vehicle for the stage: the tractor in the swamp, the lorry when you keep flipping, the rover on the moon.
  • Open the chest and check missions before each session; they fund upgrades quickly.

Hill Climb FAQ

Is Hill Climb free to play?
Yes. Hill Climb is completely free on PlayNest. There is nothing to buy and no account to create.
Do I need to download Hill Climb?
No. Hill Climb runs in your web browser, so you can start playing straight away on Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox.
Can I play Hill Climb on my phone?
Yes. Hill Climb works on Android phones, iPhones, tablets and computers, with touch and keyboard controls.
How many players can play Hill Climb?
It is a single-player game.
How long does a game of Hill Climb take?
A round takes about 6 minutes. It is rated medium and sits in our Racing collection.
Why did my run end when I barely touched the ground?
The run ends as soon as the driver's head touches the ground, or the cab roof on closed vehicles like the rickshaw, sports car, lorry and monster truck. The rest of the body can scrape and bump. Use gas and brake in the air to stay upright.
Which upgrade should I buy first?
Usually the fuel tank, because most runs end when the tank is empty. Each level adds 12% range. On the snow stage buy tyres first, and if you keep flipping over, suspension and the light body make the vehicle steadier.
How do I get gems?
Gems come from medals on each stage, from levelling up, from the hardest of the three daily missions and from the daily chest on days 3, 5 and 7. They buy the chrome and truck-art wraps, gold rims and the gold helmet.
Are my vehicles, paint and coins saved?
Yes. Your wallet, vehicles, upgrades, paint, missions, chest streak, best distances and settings are saved in your browser on this device. Progress from the first version of the game carries over.
How do flips work and what do they pay?
Rotate a full turn while airborne and land on the wheels. Nose up and over is a backflip worth 250 coins, nose down is a frontflip worth 300, and two turns pay double. The moon, with a third of the gravity, is the easiest place to try.
